Summer Makeup Essentials

IMG_3282

Welcome back my GLAM gurus!

Today I thought it would be appropriate to discuss some of my summer essential make up products. Now I know what you’re thinking, the summer months are ending and fall is soon approaching, BUT being that I live in Arizona, my summer still has a few months to go. This post is definitely lengthy so if you’re only interested in certain products, they are listed by what area on the face I use them for so it’s easier to find what you’re interested in! Let’s get started!

FACE

Now during the warmer months, I tend to not like too heavy of products. Let’s be real, it’s hot, you’re sweaty, and no one wants paint dripping down their face, so I always look for something light when it comes to my base make up. When it comes to foundation, I actually have been opting out of a typical foundation and have been using tinted moisturizer or a mineral powder make up. When I’m looking for a little more coverage or a faster application I always turn to my tried and true, Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer. When I want something more buildable and better for my skin I ALWAYS go for my Jane Iredale loose mineral powder. I feel like SO many people look down on powder makeup, I know for sure I always turned my head but through out the past year or so I have done my fair share of research and product testing and have found a few mineral powders I can’t live without (if you’re interested let me know and I can do an additional post all about my mineral make up).

Primer

I am a true believer in primer. I think it gives you the most perfect version of your skin. Although I have dryer skin, during the summer months I tend to get a little oily in my t-zone so I have found that the Smashbox primed and poreless primer works best for me! This product hides the appearance of pores while mattifying your skin so you have a flawless canvas to work with.

Foundations:

If you’re familiar with tinted moisturizer then I’m sure you’ve heard about Laura Mercier’s. You guys, I truly CANNOT live without this product. It’s perfect for all times of the year, it has flawless coverage and is definitely buildable, she has a wide variety of colors and formulations for whatever fits your needs and it’s extremely easy to apply. I like to apply this with either a flat top kabuki brush if I want more coverage or my beauty blender for something more soft and natural.

I also love my Jane Iredale loose mineral powder. I love mineral powders, I think they’re flawless on the skin, super lightweight, and it’s good for you! What more could you want in a foundation?! This product is best applied with a fluffy powder brush and if you like fuller coverage multiple layers can be applied without looking too cakey or fake. I use the loose powder because I have dryer skin so this powder will give a more glowy look to the skin, if you have more oily skin I would recommend her pressed powder which is more mattifying. I have tried both and highly recommend both of them for whatever fits you best! The only con regarding this product is it is not sold in makeup stores, you typically have to find it at a Spa or specialty makeup store because, it is considered “skincare makeup,” but I do know that Nordstrom Spa’s sell it, it is available online on their website, or if you’re in the Fresno area you can find it at Preen or Beauty Depot.

Setting Powder:

I have mentioned before that I don’t struggle with oily skin, so when I use a setting powder it is typically to set my under eye concealer so that it will not crease. The Charlotte Tilbury airbrush powder is AMAZING. I will be completely honest; it is super pricey retailing for about $50 but it sets your concealer flawlessly and does not appear thick at all.

Concealer:

Concealers are basically miracle workers in a tube. To give you a little background on my skin, I am extremely lucky and don’t have very problematic skin so I choose to use concealers as an under eye highlight. I have seriously tried every concealer on the market. I have used and abused them all and have finally found concealer peace. I know this sounds crazy but my makeup girls will understand the struggle. The two I cherish the most is the Sephora Bright Gel Serum Concealer and Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Concealer. Both of these products are extremely affordable, super lightweight, and have a wide variety of color choices. I find that I tend to like yellow-based concealers for a brightening appearance. I do not struggle with extreme dark circles, but if extreme under eye darkness is an issue for you, I would recommend using a pink based concealer, because the pink will work as a color corrector.

Bronzers/highlighters:

During the summer I love looking bronzed and glowy. I have found that my Too Face Chocolate Soleil bronzer is the perfect thing to give me that bronzed appearance. It is a matte bronzer but it blends beautifully and is neutral based so it could be used for contouring. I also love my Filmstar contour/highlight duo by Charlotte Tilbury. This palette is also pretty pricey but you get 2 powders in one; a bronzer/contour powder and a highlight.

For a highlight to give me that glowing goddess appearance I LOVE my BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Powder in Champagne Pop. I am sad to say that this is a limited edition product exclusively sold at Sephora, but they have a variety of other highlights that are just as beautiful.

Blush:

My favoite blush this summer has been MAC Peaches, it has the perfect peachy tint to give you a fresh and summery look!

EYES

I love eye makeup but because it’s summer I tend to keep my eyes pretty simple. The Too Faced Natural Matte eyeshadow palette has been my best friend. These shadows are all matte and have a variety of neutral tones for a pretty natural eye look. I love this palette because it has the perfect amount of tones that can give you multiple different looks.

BROWS

Brows are like my babies, I think they’re the most important thing on the face. I love to use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. This is a retractable brow pencil that has a spooly on the other end so you are able to comb through your brows for the perfect shape!

That my loves is all I have for you today! I know that was a ton of information but I hope it helps you out!! Let me know what your favorite products are in the comments down below.

Until next time,

xx gabriella

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and conviction to wearing primer. I always thought it was just another product to put on or for Cosmetic consultant to sell! I will definitely go out and purchase it now. I would love to hear your thoughts on different mascaras! Cheap vs. $$$
